Businesses and industries across the United Kingdom are increasing their focus on meeting their sustainability goals. One of the main components in being more eco conscious is in packaging and what alternatives are currently on the market.
The power of sustainability is also seeing a rise in distilleries, as glass bottles are becoming evermore expensive and new approaches are taking shape. Refill pouches or otherwise known as spout pouches are beginning to see a sharp rise in popularity amongst UK distilleries. Poucher is combining new technologies and bespoke packaging to bring this into a reality for many.
Companies benefiting from sustainable pouches in the UK (to name a few) are 6 0'clock Gin, Dingle Distillery, Kintyre, Brixton Gin, Darnley's Gin and many others. You can find their refill pouches online and in stores they are distributed in.
The above distilleries have tailor made pouches, which are custom made and printed to show off their brand and match the quality of their existing bottles.
New Technology
Poucher is dedicated to bring in new technology to bring new forms of recyclable pouches to brands. One of the latest advancements in this is Poucher's infusion of Sugarcane. This is to bring a plant formed pouch to distilleries. A spout pouch made from sugarcane typically refers to a packaging material derived from sugarcane-based bioplastics or bio-based polymers. These materials are produced using ethanol extracted from sugarcane, which is then processed into bio polyethylene (bio-PE) or other bioplastic resins. Spout pouches made from sugarcane-based materials offer similar properties to conventional plastic pouches but have the advantage of being derived from renewable resources.
These recyclable pouches are now on offer to distilleries from Poucher. They can be bespoke made, or they can be made to order from our range of current stock in either 50ml (frosted/clear) style or 70cl (black or frosted/clear) styles.
Poucher offers these in a pack of 50 to be sampled by distilleries to test whether sustainable pouches are right for their brand and to get stuck in with their sustainability goals. Order a pack of samples from: https://www.poucher.co.uk/shop

Island Slice Rum
Island Slice Rum: Caribbean, St Lucian Rum UK is a Scottish Rum with genuine Afro-Caribbean Soul. Offering a range of rum made in Scotland fermented using cane molasses and distilled to a genuine Afro-Caribbean process. Island Slice is 100% distilled on the banks of the River Clyde, Scotland with over 200 years of distilling Rum. The ingredients of rum originated in the sugarcane fields of the Caribbean, where the drink was pioneered by families of plantation workers. These enslaved Africans found that their rum created from the decarded molasses numbed the pain of whippings and help see them through the constant heat of the blazing Caribbean sun.
Utilizing sugarcane with a rum is a great way to define a Caribbean drink brand. This distillery have utilized 50ml plant formed pouches to their range of packaging. An effective sidekick to the distilleries range of bottled rum.
