Forest Distillery Refill Pouch | Case Study

Forest Distillery, based in the UK, is a celebrated producer of gin and whisky, known for its commitment to quality and innovation. Established in 2015 by husband-and-wife team Karl and Lindsay Bond, the distillery operates from The Cat & Fiddle, a historic inn in Cheshire that has been converted into Britain's highest-altitude distillery. This location leverages local resources such as wild yeast, spring water filtered through peat, and Cheshire-grown barley to craft premium spirits, including their Forest Gin and Forest Whisky.

The distillery has a strong focus on sustainability and craftsmanship, reflected in their use of local ingredients and traditional techniques. Forest Gin, one of their flagship products, is highly acclaimed and packaged in distinctive ceramic bottles designed by local artists. Their whisky, including the recently launched Blend 26, incorporates English oak casks for maturation, adding unique flavors.

Sustainable pouches

The lightweight design of the refill pouches significantly lowers transport emissions compared to traditional glass bottles. Furthermore, the pouches are recyclable, providing an accessible option for consumers who want to reduce their environmental impact. This initiative reflects The Forest Distillery's broader commitment to combining traditional craftsmanship with modern sustainability goals.

For customers, this innovation offers both cost efficiency and convenience. Refilling bottles is more economical, as they only pay for the gin, not the ceramic packaging, while the lighter pouches make storage and handling simpler.

Sustainable pouch UK

These pouches further benefit from the evermore sustainable materials. These pouches are originally derived from sugarcane ethanol, thus making them plantformed (BIO PE). Recyclability is the key element of any sustainable model, and these pouches have a recycle code of 4. This means they can be generally recycled kerbside, as well as recycled in most (if not all) supermarkets in the UK.

Plant based packaging

Poucher have a range of plantformed pouches in stock which can be trialled for as little as 50 pieces. Our range consists of 70cl in frosted/clear formats, as well as black and a 50ml pouch in frosted/clear format. Distilleries across the UK are now utilizing these pouches and further improving their sustainability.
